Cohesion
This spring marks an important time for me in my practice–the creation of my first chapbook. Weaving together poems with the idea to create a thematic whole has been a challenge and a dream of mine. Spreading the poems out on the floor of my room, searching each one for themes, links, words that reappear again and again so as to decipher some sort of order, sense and meaning has been an exercise in dislocation. The next step will be throwing them into the air and shuffling them, hoping that the random order creates its own sense. There are some cohesive elements in the pieces–the role of women, motherhood, fertility, a changing world, ambiguity….and a fascination with birds.
